How to Reach the Soul
Read Acts 17:1–10
As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead (Acts17:2,3).
Some people might have said Paul was just looking for trouble. He was a follower of Jesus, and most of the Jewish people did not accept Jesus as the Messiah.
When Paul entered the spiritual battleground he didn’t go unprepared. Paul didn’t go to the temple armed with endorsements from important people, and he didn’t argue with these Jews from a psychological perspective. He didn’t even focus on his experience as a former Pharisee. Instead, he reasoned with them from the Scriptures.
Al Metsker, leader of a youth ministry, always taught students, “The Word of God does the work of God.”
While endorsements, testimonies, and logic are good tools, they can’t replace God’s Word. As we memorize, learn, and teach God’s Word, the Holy Spirit somehow infuses the very words in us. They reach not only the logic and the heart, but also the soul.
